The Family Man Season 2 – Official Trailer

The trailer of Manoj Bajpayee and Samantha Akkineni-starrer “The Family Man 2” arrived on Wednesday, after a long delay of nearly three months, and fans of the thriller series soon flooded Twitter with positive reviews. However, a section of the netizens has slammed the show accusing it of showing the Tamil community in a bad light.

In the trailer of the show, Manoj Bajpayee’s character Srikant Tiwari meets his arch-rival Raji, played by Samantha. Raji, a Tamil rebel from Sri Lanka, is seen wearing the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) uniform, while the conversations indicate a hostage crisis in Chennai. This didn’t go down well with a number of people who felt that the show labels Tamils as terrorists.

“If the series has anything that hurts the Tamils and Eelam Tigers, It should and it will be banned for hurting Tamils. Don’t talk about anything if you don’t know about our History,” one tweeted. Several users asked for a boycott of the show.

Senthamizhan Seeman, filmmaker and the chief coordinator of political party Naam Tamilar Katchi in Tamil Nadu, also called for a ban on the series. In a series of tweets, Seeman demanded that “The Family Man 2” should also be banned like similar controversial movies Inam and Madras Cafe, and warned of severe outcomes if it is allowed to telecast.

The first season of the show started streaming on Amazon Prime Video on September 20, 2019, after being featured at the Television Critics Association’s summer press conference in Los Angeles in July 2019. It was praised by critics and fans alike for the cast members’ performances, as well as the script and execution. It went on to become Amazon Prime Video’s most-watched web series.

The second season was supposed to air on February 12, 2021, but it was later postponed until June 4, 2021.

The plot of The Family Man revolves around Srikant Tiwari, a married guy with two children, who works as a senior analyst in the fictional Threat Analysis and Surveillance Cell (TASC), is part of India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA). In the first season, he carries out an investigation into a possible terrorist attack, while dealing with his slightly unstable personal life. The ‎Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK’s directed action spy thriller is based on true-life newspaper stories.
